Public Works Projects:

Canyon Rim Trail

Construction on the west leg of Canyon Rim Trail continues as crews complete the installation of a large retaining wall and begin installation of footings for the pedestrian bridge. The trail remains closed to pedestrians west of Fire Station 6. Clearing and excavating south of DP Road continues. No traffic delays on N.M. 502 or DP Road are anticipated.

Diamond Drive Crack Sealing

Crack sealing activities on Diamond Drive continue from the San Ildefonso roundabout south to the Los Alamos Canyon “Omega” bridge. Activities will be limited to “off-peak” hours whenever possible, from approximately 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Motorists should expect lane drops and occasional flagging operations.

Central Avenue Phase 2 Improvements

Crews will be working daily through the Labor Day holiday weekend to stay on track with project completion.

Concrete work, road prep and asphalt paving of the eastbound lanes on Central Avenue and the south side of the Central/15th Street intersection will continue through the middle of next week. Once completed, traffic will be shifted so that work on the westbound lanes and north side of the Central/15th Street intersection can begin. During this time, Central Avenue will be one-way and open to eastbound traffic from 15th Street to Knecht with westbound traffic detoured at Knecht Street. Detours for through traffic on 15th Street will also be in place. The 15th/Central Avenue intersection is scheduled to be re-open to through traffic by mid-September. Access to local businesses will be maintained.

Message boards are positioned throughout town to provide additional information. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to follow detours, reduce speed, and use caution within the work zone.

County and Contractor personnel are available to answer questions regarding the Central Avenue Project 10-11 a.m. every Monday in Room 200 of the County Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave.

Western Area Phase 4 Improvements Project

Construction crews continue making progress with road work on 37th Street, 38th Street, 39th Street, and Ridgeway Drive. Traffic detours to and from Orange Street are in place.

On Tuesday, crews will begin utility work on the 40th Street/41st Street loop.

Residents are required to remove all vehicles on the roadway and find alternate parking during work hours. Access to residences as well as services such as a mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.
