Cone Zone: Week Of Sept. 28

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County has released the Road Construction Update for the week of Sept. 28.

Note: the below information is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays.

Public Works Projects:

Western Area Improvements Phase 3:

Major roadway and utility work on all streets is now substantially complete. Remaining work including sidewalks and small drainage improvements, landscaping, cleanup and punch list items are scheduled for final completion by mid-October.

20th Street/Fuller Lodge Improvements:

The contractor plans to keep 20th Street north of the Deacon Street intersection to the parking lot across from the Teen Center closed through Thursday, October 1st. During this time there will be temporary closures and flagging operations on 20th Street to allow the contractor to install concrete collars around the existing manholes and water valves and for permanent stripping to be completed.

The plan is to have all of the traffic control removed by the end of the day, Thursday, Oct. 1.

Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Services such as mail delivery, emergence services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.

Ice Rink Parking Improvements:

Motorists might experience delays as the new parking area is constructed please allow extra time while driving through this segment under construction. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limit and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Sherwood Blvd. /La Vista Drive:

Roadway construction continues. Motorists will be traveling on new paved asphalt as demolition continues on the east side and construction is being completed on the west side. Southbound traffic only on Sherwood, please pay attention to traffic signals. ALL BUSINESS ARE OPEN & ACCESSABLE FROM SHERWOOD. Northbound traffic closed at Aztec. This will remain until pavement is complete on the east side. RMCI continuing on subgrade prep for sidewalks, Utility Verification and Traffic Control management will be on going. Large equipment and truck will be continuous throughout the project.  

Utilities Projects:

North Community Non-potable Water Improvement Project Arizona Avenue:

Crews will be repairing and repaving the trench line on Arizona Avenue between 36th St and Pajarito School on Arizona to expand and improve storage of the non-potable water by connecting it to the Group 12 tank. Paving activities will occur in a rolling construction zone moving east and delineated by traffic control devices and a flagging operation. Some traffic delays may be expected. Utility services will not be interrupted. Crews will work 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additionally crews will be trenching and laying pipe in open-space on Woodland Trail complex.

North Mesa Non-potable Water Improvement Project North Mesa Road:

Clean up on North Mesa Road east of Hawk Drive as crews complete operations.  In support of the non-potable water system improvement project, crews are converting a North Mesa ball field pump station and installing pipe to the middle school tank near Loma Linda neighborhood. Some traffic delays are expected. 

Timber Ridge – Replace Sewer Lift Station:

The Contractor is pipefitting between the installed vaults. Traffic control devices remain in place. All measures have been taken so that no interruptions in utility services to Timber Ridge customers will occur as part of this project.    

Karen Circle (White Rock) – Lift Station Replacement:

Traffic control devices are erected around the project footprint in front of 13 and 14 Karen Circle. Minimal traffic impacts.
