Public Works Projects:

Please note the information below is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays. 

DP Road Phase II Reconstruction Project Update

  • TLC Plumbing & Utility is working Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parking:

  • Temporary Parking will be allowed at designated locations south of DP Road as crews trench across to individual businesses.
  • Parking will continue at designated areas south of Ace Hardware and south of the Los Alamos Fire Training Academy. Parking will remain open during construction unless otherwise signed.

Traffic Control:

  • New traffic control patterns have been established to allow crews areas for utility trenches across DP Road to businesses.
  • Follow all work zone signs and exercise caution; flaggers may direct traffic during certain construction events.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained. 

Construction Operations:

  • Crews will be performing utility tie- ins at individual businesses to include water, gas and conduit for electricity services crossing DP Road to the north side. Coordination with businesses will continue for any temporary disruptions to utility services by TLC and Department of Public Utilities.

Urban Trail Phase I and II Project

  • Crews will work 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday. Construction of the Trail continues along the north side of Canyon Road between the Tennis Courts and Aquatic Center.
  • The north shoulder on Canyon remains closed, with two lanes of traffic generally maintained. 
  • Flaggers will be used when lane closures are needed for construction vehicles access to the work areas.
  • Work to construct the boardwalk section of the trail will also continue in the wooded area by the Tennis Courts.

Bathtub Row Reconstruction Project

  • TLC Plumbing & Utility will work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, with the addition of Fridays and weekends, as needed. Residents can expect large equipment, and construction noise.
  • Crews continue to prepare for paving the Fuller Lodge parking lots and phase one portion of Bathtub Row, Juniper and Oppenheimer Drive.
  • The full road closure will remain in effect at Bathtub Row from Central to Oppenheimer (Mesa Public Library Driveway). Please continue to use the designated pedestrian path for access into and around Fuller Lodge, Museum and Art Center.

Utilities Projects:

Replace hardware on 50 water valves in the Quemazon subdivision

  • DPU’s water crews are proactively replacing the hardware on 50 water valves in Quemazon before this winter to mitigate water line breaks in the area. DPU crews will work on weekends until all 50 are repaired.
  • Traffic and Streets staff will follow behind to repair the concrete and asphalt disrupted by the water valve repairs. Traffic and Streets will work Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Sections of sidewalk may be closed for repair, orange barrels may be in the roadway over manholes, and flagging operations may be in place as needed.  Minimal traffic interruptions are anticipated.

  • Overlook Park Irrigation Work ContinuesThe trail section at Overlook Park between Spirio Soccer Field and Softball Field 3 is closed to all traffic, including pedestrians. This closure is necessary for work on interconnecting the irrigation system with the potable water system as a backup to the reclaimed water that is typically used to water the fields. This work is expected to last into October.

Peach St. Lane Closure between Nectar and Bathtub Row Oct. 9:

  • On Wednesday, Oct. 9, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., crews will close the north side of Peach Street between Nectar and Bathtub Row to repair a section of asphalt. A flagging operation will be in place to maintain two-way traffic. The sidewalk will remain open; however, pedestrians are asked to approach the area cautiously or ask for crew assistance.

Loma del Escolar Road Closure at the east Barranca Road Intersection Oct. 10:

  • On Thursday, Oct. 10, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., crews will close 300 feet of Loma del Escolar north of the east Barranca Road intersection (near the soccer field) for asphalt paving. Loma del Escolar at the west Barranca Road intersection will be open to local traffic. The sidewalk within the construction zone will be closed to pedestrians. All residents will be able to access their property.

Non-County Projects:

  • The following construction projects are not funded by Los Alamos County. Updates are included to keep residents informed of potential traffic impacts. Questions should be directed to the parties identified within each description. Please obey all traffic devices and slowdown in work zones.

Hill Apartments:

  • Realignment of 35th Street at Trinity Drive (NM-502)/Pavilion ConstructionPhase 1. Completed. Construction activities along the south side of Trinity near the new 35th St. intersection.
  • Phase 2. Start is yet to be determined. In the coming weeks, a pedestrian crosswalk with a new pedestrian refuge island will be constructed in the center lane of Trinity Drive. Motorists and bicyclists will be asked to share the road. Sidewalk closures will be posted, and pedestrians will be asked to follow the signage and not enter the work zone. Comcast infrastructure installation:

  • Lane Shifts and Sidewalk Closures on Meadow Lane and Rover Blvd. Comcast beginning Monday, Oct. 7-11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., CableCom, LLC, and PowerUp Southwest will bore along Meadow Lane and Rover Blvd. to install Comcast infrastructure. Motorists should expect lane shifts at the Meadow Lane and Rover Blvd. intersection. In addition, crews will close the sidewalk to pedestrians on the South side of Meadow Lane at Rover Blvd. For questions, contact CableCom, LLC, David Kozlowski, at 505.417.0955.

Sidewalk Closure on Manhattan Loop, Oct. 7th/Tree Removal

  • On Monday, Oct. 7, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Southwest Fire Defense will close the sidewalk to pedestrians at the east side of Manhattan Loop near the intersection of Canyon Road and East Road to remove a tree. For more information regarding this project, contact Kathy Martinez at 505.508.3953.

Ashley Pond Parking Lot Closure, Oct. 10/Memorial Service

  • Ashley Pond Parking Lot will be closed 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, for a memorial service for Charles McMillan. For more information regarding the closure, contact Anne Menefee at 505.508.9140.

Side Street Parking on San Ildefonso, Oct. 12/Special Event at 199 San Ildefonso Road

  • On Saturday, Oct. 12, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Pueblo Canyon Inn will host a special event that will affect the shoulder of the road at 199 San Ildefonso Road.
