Cone Zone: Week Of Oct. 26, 2020

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Public Works/Traffic Division provides the latest updates on the following projects:

Barranca Mesa 3 Subdivision Improvements Project

TLC Plumbing and Utility crews will continue placing concrete on Camino Encantado. Residents are asked to use caution in the work zone.

Mirador Subdivision in White Rock

Contractor will be placing curb and gutter and asphalt. Residents are asked to use caution in the work zone.

Pedestrian and ADA Accessibility Along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street

GM crews will be working in the area of 36th Street and 37th Street along Trinity Drive. Crews will complete work on ADA ramps and place colored concrete in the sidewalk buffer area. Construction is almost complete on the north side of Trinity. GM will commence work on the south side in the next couple weeks and move eastward.

Lane Closure on Sherwood Blvd

The contractor will be tapping the main water line and extending a new waterline into the Splash Pad at 10 Sherwood Blvd. Motorists should be aware of intermittent lane closures and flagging personnel during this time period. There is not a total closure expected at this time.

Traffic & Streets Division:

Los Alamos County Owned Parking Lot Striping Project

Crews will continue striping county owned parking lots through Nov. 6. Crews will be closing parking lots as needed and notifying occupants as they proceed. They will begin with Aquatic Center, Community Building North, Community Building South, East Park/Animal Shelter, Eco Station, Fire Station 6 (East Rd), Pajarito Cliffs Site (Public Side), and finally the Municipal Building. Work will commence daily at 7 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. The public is asked to maintain a safe distance from the crews painting these parking lots. County Wide Curb Cleaning and Painting Project

Crews will continue cleaning and re-painting curbs county-wide this week. Pedestrian traffic may be temporarily obstructed depending on location. The public is asked to maintain a safe distance from the crews painting these surfaces. All questions regarding this project should be directed to Aaron Park, Traffic Operations Manager, at 505.709.0949.

Rose Street Milling & Asphalt Paving

Crews will be working on Rose Street from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with flagging operations in place. All questions regarding this project should be directed to Scott Halder, Streets Superintendent, at 505.412.7854.

Arkansas Ave: Yucca to Canyon Glen – Milling & Asphalt Paving

Crews will be working in this area from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with flagging operations in place. All questions regarding this project should be directed to Scott Halder, Streets Superintendent, at 505.412.7854.

South Side of Trinity Drive Sidewalk Replacement (between Oppenheimer and Diamond)

GM Emulsion crews will be replacing sections of sidewalk through Nov. 13, 2020. Work will commence at 8:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. daily. Sidewalks on the South side of Trinity will be closed off as they move toward Diamond. All questions regarding this project should be directed to Scott Halder, Streets Superintendent, at 505.412.7854.

Other projects:

NM502 Roundabout Construction & Road work (State DOT, Star Paving)

No change to traffic control from last week. There is one lane open in each direction from Tewa Lp to DP Rd. Access to local streets from Tewa Lp to Arroyo Ln will still be provided. 

Access to Central Ave and 4th St. from NM 502 remains closed until further notice for construction of the roundabout. Central Ave and 4th St. can still be accessed via Knecht Street.

DP Rd (Work related to Canyon Walk Apts and The Bluffs)

Qualcon Builders, LLC – 120 DP Road Utility Infrastructure Replacement

Work within DP Rd is expected to resume the week of Oct. 26. During trenching activities the portions of DP Rd impacted will be restricted to one-lane traffic controlled by a flagged/signaled system. One-lane traffic restrictions will occur only during hours of construction potentially from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.  Access to businesses in this area will be maintained during these activities.

Vehicles and pedestrian traffic are urged to follow all traffic control devices and maintain a safe distance from the work zones listed above.
