Public Works/Traffic Division projects:

Road Striping – Los Alamos & White Rock:

Traffic and Streets Division crews continue striping local roadways to replace faded markings for traffic safety. Crews are working east on Trinity and east on Canyon/Central to East Rd at the edge of Los Alamos. Once they have completed striping in Los Alamos, they will move to White Rock. Work will continue until main roadways are finished; all work is expected to wrap up mid-July. Work is weather dependent. No traffic delays anticipated that will impede traffic flow; please slow down and use caution when crews are working in these areas.

Fiber Optic Work – Trinity & 7th Street:
A fiber optic contractor will be doing work in the vicinity of Trinity/7th Street. The majority of the work will be done behind the sidewalk however there may be intermittent sidewalk closures. Pedestrians are urged to seek alternative routes, using the sidewalk on the north side of Trinity Drive. The right turn lane exiting Smith’s at 7th Street, will be closed for approximately 6 hours while the fiber optic connections are being made in this area.

Manhole Repairs – Ponderosa Estates:
Beginning Monday, July 1, crews will be adjusting manholes in the Ponderosa Estates area. This work will begin on Aspen Drive at Range Road and continue along Aspen Drive, Sumac Lane and Maple Drive before finishing back at Aspen Drive. Since there a dozens of manhole adjustments in this sub-division, construction is scheduled to go through July 31st.

The concrete being used is a high strength mix and will require a cure time, residents are urged to avoid driving over these manholes for the first few days after they are poured. Traffic control will be set up daily in several locations along the project route and residents are urged to use caution when driving through and walking near these work zones. The work is scheduled to begin at 8:00 am and end by 5:00 pm each day.

Other road construction projects:

NM502 Roundabout and Road Reconstruction (NMDOT project)
The contractor is working on common trench for utility work from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Monday thru Friday. Traffic can expect delays. The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph.

NM502 (Trinity Drive) east-bound traffic is being detoured to 4th Street and Central Avenue. After a full stop, motorists should turn right (east) and travel through the construction zone to continue east-bound out of Los Alamos on NM502.

West-bound NM502 traffic entering Los Alamos and approaching the roundabout construction zone are being detoured onto Central Avenue; continue west to Knecht Street (or alternatively, continue to the traffic light at 15th Street) then turn left to return to Trinity Drive.

There will be one lane of traffic in each direction on Central Avenue. Please slow down, use caution and expect delays in this area, especially during peak evening commute times.

Traffic advisories from NMDOT are available on www.nmroads.com and motorists are asked to check the site for updates on this project as it proceeds.

TA-21 Clean Up Project – DP Road (N3B project) Clean up work on the LANL TA-21 Site at the far eastern end of DP Road continues. Large trucks carrying away demolition debris containers will be exiting DP Rd at an average of approximately three trucks per day. Motorists are asked to be alert for trucks exiting; use caution when entering or exiting DP Rd, as this area is near the NM502 Road Reconstruction project.
