COUNTY News:
Upcoming Road Construction
For more information about the projects listed below, e-mail lacpw@lacnm.us, call 505.662.8150, or visit the “Projects” link at www.losalamosnm.us. Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones.
Central Avenue Improvements Project:
Central Avenue continues to be fully closed 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., between 15th Street and 20th Street for night work.
The contractor plans on working a day and night crew in an effort to complete this section of the project within the first 60 days of the construction.
During the daytime, Central Avenue between 15th and 20th will consist of one lane of westbound traffic. Eastbound Central traffic will be detoured to Deacon Street, to 15th and back to eastbound Central. The detour was moved from Trinity Drive to Deacon to enhance traffic flow.
On-street parking on Central will be closed:
- Motorists are asked to use alternate parking in the area.
- Pedestrian detour signs are posted and walkers are asked to use detours and avoid the work zone.
- Shoppers and diners are asked to use alternate business entrances including those along Deacon Street, 15th Street and 20th Street.
N.M. 502 / Trinity Storm Drain Improvements:
Contractors will be working this weekend on the north Knecht intersection at Trinity, which continues to be closed through Monday, July 14 to install the storm drain across Knecht. Knecht south of Trinity will remain open. Eastbound Trinity traffic will be maintained. Access to north Knecht is available from Central. This will be the final phase of the project.
Tuesday, July 15, traffic control will be removed to allow for both east and west traffic flow on Trinity Drive. Also, the new traffic signal at 7th Street will change from flashing red in both directions to fully operational.
The two inside lanes just east of the Knecht intersection will remain closed while the contractor rebuilds the raised curb and gutter median. This will allow for only one lane in each direction through this area.
Eastbound: One travel lane of eastbound N.M. 502/Trinity Drive traffic will be maintained; travelers will be able to access DP Road and continue eastbound on N.M. 502.
Westbound: Traffic will be detoured to Central Avenue, then to 15th and back to Trinity Drive. Westbound traffic may access DP Road by following the Trinity detour and turning left (east) at 15th and Trinity.
The established westbound detour is purposely routed through the signalized intersections at Central and 15th, and at 15th and Trinity to allow for the most efficient traffic flow. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution, watch for pedestrians, and slow down while moving through the detour area.
The Central Avenue access to the Municipal Building will open Tuesday, July 15.
Western Area Improvements Phase 2:
45th Street off Trinity remains closed to through traffic; on 46th Street off Trinity the contractor continues with service line connections to the new water meters, expect intermittent delays. Concrete work continues on drive pads and curb and gutter installations on 46th Street. Access to residences as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.
Sound Wall between Tewa Loop and Airport Road:
Expect shoulder work on the south side of East Drive; please find alternate parking for vehicles parked on the south side of East Drive.
Non-County Projects of Significance:
Smith’s Marketplace construction continues through opening day July 16. Expect significant truck traffic and potential delays on N.M. 502 and Trinity Drive.
