Coming Soon 2014 Public Works Projects:

NM502 / Trinity Storm Drain Improvements:
Starting on approximately May 5, construction will begin on Trinity Drive between DP Road and Knecht Street. Work will include trenching in the north side of Trinity to install storm drains and lateral storm water lines. This project will require significant traffic control. As the traffic control plans are approved, additional information will be included in these construction updates and on the project website. This work is expected to last through mid-July.

Western Area Phase 2 Improvements:
Construction will occur on 45th Street (Trinity to 43rd Street), 46th Street (Trinity to cul-de-sac) and 47th Street (Trinity to 48th Street). Work includes replacing the existing sidewalks between these streets and Western Area Park. Utility work will consist of installation of new water mains as well as replacement of sections of sewer lines that cross these roads. This project is scheduled for Council award on April 29, with work anticipated to start before the end of May. All work should be substantially complete by the end of October.

Sound Wall between Tewa Loop and Airport Road:
A sound wall will be built on the north side of NM502 between Tewa Loop and Airport Road. Design is complete and the project was advertised for bids April 13 with Council award scheduled for May 27. Construction is expected to start by the end of June and be completed by mid-September.

Canyon Rim Trail Pedestrian Bridge Design:
The scope of this project is to continue the existing trail west towards the new Smith’s Marketplace. In 2014 the scope will focus on the design of the trail and the design of an 80–120 foot span pedestrian bridge. Award of the design is currently scheduled for Council award in late May. Construction will occur in 2015.

Central Avenue Improvements:
The Central Avenue Improvements between 15th Street and Oppenheimer will include the upgrade of all sidewalk ramps to ADA standards, the addition of one crosswalk, the installation of concrete pedestrian crossings, landscape and irrigation improvements, changes to the placement of street and pedestrian lights, and a mill and overlay of the pavement surface. Work will also include an additive alternate for reconstructing Oppenheimer Drive from Central Avenue to Trinity Drive. The project will be released for bid in early May with Council award anticipated for June 10.

Non-County Projects of Significance:
Smith’s Marketplace construction will continue through opening day in mid-July 2014. Expect significant truck traffic and potential delays on N.M. 502 and Trinity Drive. Work also continues on the south side of the Meri-Mac Shopping Center to reconfigure the existing parking lot to align with the new Smith’s Marketplace driveway, which will be controlled by a traffic signal.
