COUNTY News:

Public Works Projects:

The projects listed in this section are being managed by County Public Works staff through contractors. For more information, email lacpw@lacnm.us, call 505.662.8150, or visit the “Projects/Public Works” link at www.losalamosnm.us.

Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones. Note: the below information is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays.

Sherwood Boulevard Roadway and Drainage Improvements

Sherwood Boulevard is closed to thru traffic for road and drainage work. Crews with Star Paving Company have commenced road and drainage improvements on Sherwood between Piedra Loop and Aztec Avenue.

Crews are removing curb and gutter, selected driveways and have begun trenching for installation of a storm drain requiring Sherwood to be closed to thru traffic from Grand Canyon Drive to Aztec. Sidewalks will be closed and barricaded to pedestrians. Traffic devices and detour signs are in place to help motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians navigate around the work zone. Pedestrians may utilize Atomic City Transit while sidewalk closures are in place. Vehicular access is limited to those who reside in the immediate work area and to mail delivery, emergency services, and trash and recycling collection. For safety of the traveling public, residents are asked not to remove or relocate traffic control devices, signs, and barricades. Residents with special access needs are asked to contact the Public Works Department.

Closure of Sherwood from Grand Canyon to Aztec for this first phase of work is scheduled through the end of June 2022, while closure for the next phase of work from Piedra to Grand Canyon is scheduled for June to July 2022. Work schedules are subject to change pending weather conditions and any material shipping delays. Work Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Canyon Rim Trail Partial Closure due to Construction Activities

Contractors for Qualcon Builders (Canyon Walk Apartments) will be placing rock along the south side of the Canyon Rim Trail between DP Road and the DP Canyon Bridge 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, April 7 through Friday, April 15. During this activity, the south side of the trail will be closed intermittently when the rock is being placed by a small piece of equipment. Contractor employees (flaggers) will be on site to direct trail users safely through the work area during these times. Trail users are asked to use caution and follow the direction of the flaggers during this work.
