Cone Zone: Road Construction Week of Sept. 22

COUNTY News:

Road Construction Update: Week of Sept. 22.

For more information about the projects listed below, e-mail lacpw@lacnm.us, call 505.662.8150, or visit the “Projects” link at www.losalamosnm.us. Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones.

Note that the below information is based on schedule information provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays.

Diamond Drive Slurry Seal:

As part of the pavement preservation program, Diamond Drive from the roundabout to North Road/Ridgeway will be slurry sealed starting Monday. Expect lane closures, flagging operations, and possible delays. Barring any delays, this work should be complete by Wednesday.

Pavement Preservation Work in White Rock:

Chip material has been applied on Hamlin Court, Pruitt, Paige Loop and Paige Court in White Rock. The final sealant is scheduled to be applied between September 24 and 26. Residents will receive 48 hour notice before the final sealant is applied on their street. Expect intermittent lane closures and flagging operations.

Central Avenue Improvements Project:

Please stay out of the established work zones. Cutting across an active work zone is extremely dangerous and pedestrians are advised to use the provided temporary crossings.

Central Avenue roadway between 15th Street and 20th Street has been paved and the contractor will be installing the concrete crosswalks; temporary crossings will be provided. County crews will apply the striping and roadway markings. Work on this section of Central is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 4.

The contractor will be trenching between the Post Office driveway west through the southernmost parking spaces in the library overflow parking lot (Farmers Market location). The contractor will backfill any open trenches to allow for full access by the Farmers Market vendors. Pedestrians will be routed to the south side of Central. Trenching across Bathtub Row will occur at 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday .

Oppenheimer between Trinity and Central remains closed to traffic in both directions. Vehicles and pedestrians will be detoured to 20th Street. Oppenheimer will remain closed through Oct. 31.

Motorists should use alternate business parking including parking lots along Deacon, 15th Street, 20th Street, and Nectar.

Other than noted above, night work will stop now that the work is beginning to move west closer to a residential area. Crews will continue to work Monday through Thursday with Friday and weekend work as needed.

Western Area Improvements Phase 2:

47th Street off Trinity is paved and general punch list and clean-up is ongoing.

On 46th/47th Street off Sandia, concrete work continues, to be followed by roadbed preparation. Expect traffic control to change as the work progresses.

Access to residences as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.

Sound Wall between Tewa Loop and Airport Road:

Shoulder work continues on the south side of East Drive; please do not park on the south side of East Drive. Construction of the block wall is complete. Application of anti-graffiti paint and landscaping on the north side of the wall remains.
