COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County road construction activity for the week of June 23.
For more information about the projects listed below, e-mail lacpw@lacnm.us, call 505.662.8150 or visit the “Projects” link at www.losalamosnm.us. Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones.
N.M. 502 / Trinity Storm Drain Improvements:
The northern lanes of Trinity Drive remain closed, resulting in one-way eastbound traffic on Trinity and a westbound detour to Central Avenue. Please Note: business driveways on the north side of Trinity are closed, use Knecht or Central to access businesses between Del Norte Credit Union and the Hilltop House Hotel site.
Eastbound: One travel lane of eastbound N.M. 502/Trinity Drive traffic will be maintained; travelers will be able to access DP Road and continue eastbound on NM502.
Westbound: Traffic will be detoured to Central Avenue, then to 15th, and back to Trinity Drive. Westbound traffic may access DP Road by following the Trinity detour and turning left (east) at 15th and Trinity.
Starting mid-week, the Knecht intersection at Trinity will be closed to install the storm drain across Knecht. Once this closure occurs, Knecht will be closed for up to two weeks. Upon closure of Knecht, the other driveways on Trinity between Knecht and Central will be opened. This will be the final phase of the project.
The established westbound detour is purposely routed through the signalized intersections at Central and 15th, and at 15th and Trinity to allow for the most efficient traffic flow. Please use extreme caution, watch for pedestrians, and slow down as you move through the detour area.
The Central Avenue access to the Municipal Building will remain closed; please use the Municipal Building driveways off Iris Street.
Western Area Improvements Phase 2:
45th Street off Trinity remains closed to through traffic; on 46th off Trinity the contractor is trenching for utility crossings, expect intermittent delays; and, concrete work continues on the sidewalks within the Western Area Park. Access to residences as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.
Upcoming Projects:
• Central Avenue Improvements Project starts on June 30 between 15th Street and 20th Street, expect significant traffic control. Look for details in next week’s update.
• Sound Wall between Tewa Loop and Airport Road also starts on June 30. Expect shoulder work on East Drive, please find alternate parking for vehicles parked on the north side of East Drive.
Non-County Projects of Significance:
Smith’s Marketplace construction continues through opening day in mid-July 2014. Expect significant truck traffic and potential delays on N.M. 502 and Trinity Drive.
