COMMUNITY News:
In February, the Los Alamos Daily Post published an article about the Los Alamos Group Home (LAGH). The article gave information on the Group Home and how it was seeking help from the community to replace the aging flooring at its home on Peach Street.
Mesa to Mesa’s Executive Director Jon Bulthuis reached out to foundations and other organizations that support the mission of making homes safe and comfortable for residents of limited means.
“To say we had a good response would be a complete understatement,” LAGH Board Member Bobbie Riley said. “We, the Los Alamos Group Home Board, and Mesa to Mesa, have been humbled at the donations we have received and continue to receive from individuals and groups in this generous community.”
Los Alamos Community Foundation (LACF) Executive Director Liz Martineau also researched funding sources and found a match with the Carl C. Anderson and Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation.
“We were able to work together to secure $12,500 for this project,” Martineau said. “We are grateful to the Anderson Foundation for supporting this vital project and proud to be a part of a community where people work together through large and small donations to support non-profit organizations.”
This substantial donation from the Anderson Foundation, along with the donations received from generous community members and groups, has allowed the Group Home the funding to secure a contract with Raby Home Solutions to complete the project. It is hoping to get everything moving and scheduled for installation by the end of May or first part of June.
The public can still join the effort by donating to the flooring project/capital improvements at Peach House.
