COUNTY News:

Mesa Public Library, in collaboration with Family Strengths Network and the Adult Learning Center at UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA), is hosting a series of conversational English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at no cost to the public.

Textbook and all course materials will be provided at no cost. Classes are 1-5 p.m. Wednesdays between Feb. 2 and May 4 downstairs in The Zone at Mesa Public Library.

Drop-ins are welcome and participation in the full series of class offerings is not necessary.

Adult students of all abilities will improve their English conversation, writing, reading, listening, and pronunciation skills in a fun and interactive environment. Support will be provided for adult ESL learners of all levels, and classes may include board games, a book club, and other language practice activities.

UNM-LA instructor Claudia Ress will help students practice English in real life scenarios, emphasizing practical use and communication. Students also will be encouraged to take advantage of UNM-LA’s computer lab and ESL tutors outside of class, also at no cost.

Need to keep the kids busy so you can attend ESL classes? While Mesa Public Library does not provide monitoring or childcare, age-appropriate activities are facilitated by library staff for children 6 years and up 1:30-5 p.m. each Wednesday. Games and art supplies are available 3-5 p.m., for use in The Zone at Mesa Public Library where ESL class takes place. For children 5 years and younger, parents and caregivers are encouraged to inquire about the Companion Program offered through Family Strengths Network by emailing fsn@lafsn.org
