NMDOT News:
SANTA FE–The public is invited to provide final comment on the New Mexico State Rail Plan that will serve as a five year plan for the State’s railroad program.
The Rail Plan, which is a Federal requirement, sets forth state policy regarding passenger and freight rail transportation. It identifies current and future passenger and freight rail facilities, services, needs, issues and opportunities.
The plan also evaluates the benefits, costs and efficiency of potential new projects and services and prioritizes these after considering funding availability and other factors affecting implementation.
The NMDOT has posted the Rail Plan on its website, http://dot.state.nm.us, asking for public comment through Jan. 3. The NMDOT will solicit public comment on the Rail Plan at the following meetings of the State’s regional planning organizations between Nov. 14 and Dec.11. Those in northern New Mexico are:
1:30-3:30 p.m. Nov. 18
The New Mexico State Rail Plan is developed by the NMDOT, working in cooperation with state, local and tribal transportation agencies, regional planning organizations, railroads and other rail stakeholders. The NMDOT Rail Bureau will take comments via email at Rail.Plan@state.nm.us.
