BAND BOOSTER News:

A unique entertainment experience is coming to Duane Smith Auditorium in Los Alamos at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 12, a live stand-up comedy and music! In it’s second year, “LOL! Los Alamos” will feature four New Mexico comics in a family friendly show with special musical guest, The Pleasure Pilots.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $15 or $10 for students and seniors. All proceeds will benefit the Los Alamos High School Band program and their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C. for the National Independence Day Parade.

“It’s hard to come up with original fundraising ideas,” LAHS Band Director Zane Meek said. “A couple of years ago we asked, what can we do that Los Alamos doesn’t already have? Comedy. So last year was our first comedy show and it was a blast. For this year’s event, we were helped by Albuquerque comedy producer Danger Varoz.”

Los Alamos native Varoz will be the host for the evening. Currently residing in Albuquerque, he is a nearly four year veteran of the stage having taken his unique brand of stand up through sixteen cities all across the Southwest. Danger produces the Albuquerque sketch comedy show, Sketchy, as well as Microcomedy, a monthly showcase in downtown Albuquerque’s Microbar. He is an avid film maker, writer, musician and outer space enthusiast. He enjoys chilling with his totally genius kid and insanely gorgeous girlfriend. He has a cat named Steve.

Headliner Matt Peterson is a comedian from Albuquerque whose comedy goals are simple: make you laugh! His quick wit and fun demeanor make him an audience favorite! He’s performed in comedy clubs, casinos, colleges and theaters across the Southwest! Matt has opened for Tig Notaro, Marc Maron, Doug Stanhope, Dave Ross, Alex Ortiz, Troy Baxley and Steven Michael Quezada! Peterson was voted one of Albuquerque’s best comedians in the Weekly Alibi’s 2007 and 2014 “Best of Burque” issue and featured in the “Comedy Issue” of ABQ the Magazine in 2009! Matt was also voted one of the top comedians in 2014 and 2015 “Best of the CIty”. In 2011, he was cast a lead role in the comedy film, The Bigfoot Election. In 2014 Peterson co-wrote, co-produced and starred in the upcoming comedy film “Abe Makes A Movie”. He has had roles on In Plain Sight, Longmire, Killer Women and Manhattan!

The show also features Niki Mangin. Mangin is a comedian and a published writer – “Why I Hate People Who Post Pictures of Their Food” Facebook, 2012. She is also an accomplished photographer, including works like, “Look At This Giant Bruise On My Leg.” Instagram, 2014. She produces a weekly television talk show, “The After After Party with Steven Michael Quezada” on NBC and the CW. She boasts an other-wordly adorability and she always guarantees a great time for any audience!

John Cuellar will be opening. He began his comedy career at Laugh’s open mic night and graduated to underground venues, casinos, theaters, and anywhere else with a stage and a microphone. John continues to wow audiences with a mixture of crowd work, jokes and stories that are fun for any audience. From jokes about pets to politics and anything else that pops up at the moment, Cuellar is sure to find something for you to laugh about!
