Class Of 2016 Presents Prom 2015: Moonlight Sonata

LAHS News:

Final plans are underway for holding the LAHS Prom at Buffalo Thunder Resort. The Prom will be held Saturday, April 25. A welcome reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner service beginning at 7:30 p.m., with the dance ending at midnight.

The Junior class is thrilled to have an opportunity to make the Prom truly a special event as it represents for many, the first formal social event of this kind that many get to experience. Our High School is recognized as a top high school in the country. We work hard and our students go on to do great things. We as students, think it is important that we recognize all the hard work and dedication we put into our time at LAHS. Having a fantastic Prom is our way of recognizing each other!

Two parent information sessions were held in the last several weeks. Details of the prom were discussed and the ballrooms were toured. Among some of the topics discussed:

Tickets

All students attending the Prom will need to buy a ticket for $50 each. While it has been tradition that Seniors did not have to pay for their tickets, their admission to the Prom in previous years did not include a dinner or ballroom. They had to pay for their dinners separately – which were generally off the Hill, in Santa Fe. We surveyed seniors at registration and found that they overwhelmingly supported having the Prom at Buffalo Thunder,  and would be willing to pay for their tickets to do so. The costs of holding the Prom at Buffalo Thunder are completely covered by ticket sales.

Transportation Options

Transportation will be a parental decision.  Buffalo Thunder  will offer shuttles to take students to and from the resort.   If a student rides the shuttle down to Buffalo Thunder, he/she will be required to ride it back.   In addition, students riding the shuttles will need to have a parent sign them in and out  as they leave and return to the High School.  Those not wishing to take a shuttle  will have to have their parent’s written permission  in the form of a signed waiver.

Dinner and Dancing

Prom this year will include a full 3-course, sit-down dinner, complete with dessert and iced tea. The dinner will be held in an elegant grand ballroom, complete with full decor. We will have china, silver, chandeliers, and linens on the table – all the elements for an elegant evening.

The dance will be held in the ballroom as well. Access to the ballroom is highly secure and controlled. Only LAHS students and our chaperones will be admitted to our area of the ballrooms. Students will be in the same area from the time they enter to the time they leave at the end of the dance. Students will be utilizing the northwest entrance in the conference area, a completely separate area from the rest of the resort.

Hotel Rooms

Both students and  their parents are strongly discouraged from booking  hotel rooms at Buffalo Thunder on the night of the Prom. The hotel uses a “Red List” process, which flags rooms under a student or parents names and these rooms are monitored for noise and illegal activities.

Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships will be available for students who would not otherwise be able to afford to go to Prom. We want to make sure this event is accessible to all students.

Ticket sales will be held March 30 – April 2 and April 13 – 17.
