City Of EspaƱola Hosts Employee Cleanup Day April 6

CITY OF ESPAƑOLA News:

EspaƱola Mayor John Ramon Vigil has announced that City of EspaƱola employees will be cleaning up their community in preparation for Easter weekend.

All non-essential services and facilities, including City Hall will be closed Thursday, April 6, so staff can assist with efforts.

ā€œEach year on Good Friday, thousands of people participate in the annual pilgrimage to El Santuario de Chimayó,ā€ Vigil said.

The Santuario is located just east of EspaƱola.

ā€œPeople come into EspaƱola after the pilgrimage,ā€ he said. ā€œThe big events are the car shows, and you’ll see hundreds of lowriders in town.ā€

EspaƱola considers itself to be the Lowrider Capital of the World, Vigil said. Hundreds of the custom cars will cruise through town to show off the unique designs of the vehicles.

Under Vigil’s administration, City of EspaƱola employees participated in a clean up day last June, walking approximately four miles to pick up trash along Riverside Drive – the section of N.M. 68 that passes through EspaƱola’s Central Business District.

ā€œThis time staff will focus on Coronado Avenue and McCurdy Road,ā€ Vigil said. ā€œWe love having the visitors in EspaƱola for Easter weekend.ā€

Non-essential services and facilities also will be closed Friday, April 7 in observance of Good Friday.
