Los Alamos Choral Society (LACS) Musical and Artistic Director Mary Badarak shares her thoughts about the upcoming concert:

“Our music for this concert reflects the works of generations of great composers, each of whom created comforting and inspiring music in times of great difficulty. From J. S. Bach through the Romantic Era of Brahms to more contemporary works by Samuel Barber and Leonard Bernstein, we are performing it here rising from our own troubles, with the encouragement of these masters, to a place of hope, optimism and even joy.”

Our concert concludes with “Evensong: Let Evening Come,” poet Jane Kenyon’s words of consolation toward the end of her life. She wrote this poem while sitting on the porch of her farmhouse, taking in the natural beauty of the scene and a sense of peace. Badarak set this poem to music and we joyfully offer it here.

Rehearsing and coming to love all these works has brought us together and gladdened our hearts in any number of ways. We invite you to join us for this concert in our renewed spirit of connection and hope.

Please join us at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4 at the United Church Sanctuary. Following the concert, we will share refreshments in the foyer.

We are already making plans for our 2023-2024 season. The Choral Society Fall/Winter concert will present another program of wonderful music that shouldn’t be missed! We invite you to join us in the chorus: we rehearse 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays at the United Church; the first rehearsal for this set will be in early September.
