Chief Bids Farewell to ‘Irreplaceable’ Assistant

Chief Wayne Torpy said goodbye to his assistant Sandra Salazar during her retirement party Friday at Fuller Lodge. “Sandra is irreplaceable … I have never had an assistant like Sandra before in my career and I don’t expect to again … she had tremendous technical skills but so do many people … Sandra went beyond that … in so many little things that she did, for example, she always let me know when someone was having a bad day or going through a rough time and needed my encouragement,” Torpy said. Salazar joined the Los Alamos Police Department in April 2009 as Torpy’s assistant. She told the Los Alamos Daily Post, “Chief Torpy is the best boss I’ve ever worked for in my entire life – ever … he was always so easy to talk to and I could go to him with any question and he never made me feel embarrassed or self-conscious.” Salazar has been employed with Los Alamos County for 25 and one half years. In her retirement, Salazar plans to pursue her own business as an independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. Her website is and her email is Photo by Carol A. Clark/
