Things have been hopping at Chicken Teriyaki since the White Rock restaurant opened its doors Nov. 12. The restaurant, located at 25 Bonnie View Dr. is housed in the former Pizza Hut, which has stood empty for a number of years.

“I saw this place standing empty and decided I would like to open my restaurant there,” owner and main cook Nhan T. Nguyen said. “I visited the restaurants in Los Alamos and I thought, there’s a place here for what I want to do.”

The restaurant focuses on Japanese dishes, but an eclectic mix of other dishes are also on the menu.

Some of the dishes include: chicken teriyaki (also available double at a discount), beef teriyaki, sweet and sour pork, chicken yakatori (on skewers), Yakisoba noodles with choice of meet, Udon noodles, steamed buns, ribeye steak and pork short ribs. Breakfast is coming soon, Nguyen said.

Portions are huge and service is fast at Chicken Teriyaki. Folks will be reminded of noodle shops and Asian fusion take-out places common in bigger cities. Nguyen invites people to watch the cooks in action and see for themselves that every dish is made fresh for the customer.

Nguyen grew up in Vietnam and is of Vietnamese and Japanese descent. He has lived in the U.S. since 1989.

“I’ve been in the restaurant business all my life, so I chose dishes that I like and enjoy preparing,” Nguyen said.

The restaurant’s goal is to provide fresh food, high in nutrition. “I want everyone to be happy with the food and the service,” he said. “Quality is the most important thing. “I want people to say, ‘Wow, this is so fresh!’.”

Chicken Teriyaki is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. For more information or to order takeout, call 505.672.4009.
