Join Chick Keller to discover the fascinating story behind how the longitude of ships at sea was first determined. This planetarium show is 7 p.m. Friday, May 25 at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road.
After several British ships crashed on reefs, a prize was offered for a method of determining longitude. This required extremely accurate clocks. The clocks to do this were the strangest ever built, and the men who built them were equally strange. But, for the first time, ships knew where they were at sea.
Because there is limited seating in the planetarium, advance ticket purchase is encouraged. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Los Alamos Nature Center or calling 505.662.0460. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Planetarium shows are not recommended for children under age 4.
