CHARGER AQUATICS News:

On Thursday, May 23, Charger Aquatics swim team set up a donation booth in front of Smith’s Food & Drug in Los Alamos to collect items for pets injured and/or displaced by the devastating tornado that hit Moore, Okla. Monday.

Instead of jumping into the pool for afternoon practice, they were diving into community service by making Smith’s patrons aware of the need to reunite pets with their owners. The team collected $572.82 in cash in three hours, and delivered eight shopping carts full of paper towels, dog food, cat food, treats, snacks for both pets and volunteers, and many cases of water to Pet Pangea (a collection site for this charitable affair.)

The cash that was collected during this event will be used to purchase items still needed on the request list, such as large dog crates, food and medical supplies. The team did so well in approaching Smith’s shoppers and explaining their mission, people actually thanked them for their efforts.

Donations can still be dropped off at Pet Pangea through Sunday, May 26, or at the Larry R. Aquatic Center through the close of business Saturday, May 25.

Happy endings in the making…
