The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce announced it is partnering with Los Alamos High School to form the Los Alamos Early College and Career Academy (LAECCA). UNM-Los Alamos serves as the higher educational partner with LAECCA.
Recognizing that a skilled and appropriately prepared workforce is essential to the economic vitality of Los Alamos and the region, collaboration between local educational and commercial institutions is necessary. The LAECCA and the Chamber will connect students to employment settings in the community to help them develop effective 21st century employability skills.
The Early College and and Career Academy emphasizes three major areas of post-secondary study: electro-mechanical technologies, business marketing, and health. LAECCA students can earn college certifications and substantial credits towards an associate’s degree. Candidates would need to commit to completing a sequence of courses in addition to high school graduation requirements throughout their high school career.
“We are looking for ninth grade candidates for our Accelerated College & Career Readiness class this spring. This class teaches study skills, time management, and explores educational and career opportunities. These are skills that will buoy students in college, the workplace and further in life”, LAECCA Program Organizer Brent Collom said.
The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce is a program of Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation; a private, not-for-profit economic and community development organization serving the Los Alamos area since 1983.
