Chamber Golf Tournament to Benefit United Way

On Friday, May 11, the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce is hosting a golf tournament to benefit the United Way of Northern New Mexico (serving Los Alamos and Rio Arriba counties).

The tournament will be a “shot gun start” at 1pm at the beautiful Black Mesa Golf Course. Black Mesa is ranked 4 nationally and are pleased to be able to invite the public.

You need not be a Chamber of Commerce member to play.

United Way’s mission is to engage human and financial resources to improve the quality of life of the people in the communities they serve in Northern New Mexico.United Way reports that 22 local, direct-service providers were funded through the United Way Grant Program in 2011.

The United Way Community Action Fund provides the financial resources for the grant program, enabling many local organizations to help friends, families and neighbors in Los Alamos and Rio Arriba Counties.

It is through the community’s generous response to the theme “Give Local. See Results.” that the volunteer Board of Trustees and grant committee was able to offer financial

assistance to local organizations that serve our communities.

In addition to this year’s grant recipients, United Way has been able to provide financial assistance to Community Partners that are serving people who have been affected by the Las Conchas Fire.

Campaign 2012 results: Total $2,807,165

Community Action Fund $577,713 (grant funds)

Restricted Contributions $2,159,452 (donor earmarked for specific charities)

The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce’s fundraising goal through the golf tournament is $6,000. All quality non-profit organizations need financial resources to achieve their goals.

The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce views this as an opportunity, not only to demonstrate our commitment to these goals but to partner with our neighbors in Rio Arriba County, as well.

United Way’s 2011/2012 Campaign Chair and Chamber of Commerce Member Services Coordinator, Katy Korkos reflected, “There is nothing that is more fulfilling for me

than being part of a community. As Chair of the 2011 and 2012 fundraising campaigns,

I have witnessed countless acts of generosity, and I have also seen the results of that generosity. Young people, families and seniors are finding relief, support and the ability to learn and grow from the many excellent agencies that are supported by United Way funds.”

Suzette Fox, Community Projects Coordinator for the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation said, “Please register for the golf tournament. You will have fun, win great prizes and help to raise money for a good cause.”

A silent auction and raffle will help do just that. A 5 day stay in Park City, Utah is up for grabs as well as a Kobalt 4 piece Lithium-Ion Tool Set among many other great items. Great prizes for the winners, great dinner and a great course await you.

Information and registration is available at www.lachambergolf.com or call Suzette Fox at (505) 661- 4844.
