Chama Chile Ski Classic & Winter Fiesta Jan. 18-19

The Chama Chile Ski Classic & Winter Fiesta, northern New Mexico’s premier winter event, takes place Jan. 18-19, 2020, in Chama, NM and the South San Juan Mountains.
 
There are 6K & 18K Freestyle and 6K & 12 K Classic Cross-country ski races; USSSA qualifying 6K & 12 K Snowshoe Races and combined races. The race course is located 12 miles north of Chama and includes a portion of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad track. At 9800 feet elevation, the race course is a great training ground for Snowshoers who want to qualify for the US National Snowshoe Championship races taking place in Leadville, CO (10,050 ft.), Feb. 29-March 1, 2020. Other events over the weekend include beginner to advanced ski clinics, ski & snowshoe tours, a costume contest, 2 awards ceremonies, live music and a silent auction.

  • Saturday, Jan. 18 – 6K & 18K Freestyle XC Ski Races, 6K Snowshoe Race (USSSA Junior qualifying snowshoe race for the National Championships)   
  • Sunday, Jan. 19 – 6K & 12K Classic XC Ski Races, 12K Snowshoe Race (USSSA Adult/Masters qualifying snowshe race for the National Championships).  Combined Races: 12K Ski/6K Snowshoe & 6K Ski/6K snowshoe
  • Rookie Races 1K, 2K or 3K XC Ski or Snowshoe races, Date:  TBD
