Cerro Pelado Fire Morning Video: Monday May 16

Video this morning of Great Basin Team 1 Public Information Officer Mary Cernicek, Acting Deputy Fire Chief Ben Stone, Training Capt. Aaron McNiff and Capt. Manny Pacheco of the Los Alamos County Fire Department (LAFD) speaking with the Los Alamos Daily Post at the LAFD Training Center on DP Road on the overnight status of the Cerro Pelado Fire. In this video fire officials demonstrate in a controlled and designated facility just how fast dry brush in the area ignites and spreads and provide fire safety tips for residents in the community. Cernicek also reports that the fire grew by 3 acres overnight and is now at 45,605 acres and 62 percent containment. Due to the Community Briefing on the fire at 5:30 p.m. today in Griffith Gymnasium, there won’t be an evening video update but the Post will publish a report on the results of tonight’s briefing.
