Carolyn Torres has been chosen Los Alamos Teacher of the Year.She has taught third grade at Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock for eight years. Prior to that, Torres taught special education at Los Alamos Middle School for eight years.

“The thing I love most about teaching is watching the lights go on when kids finally understand something,” Torres said. “I love math and I especially love seeing a kid discover they like math and are good at it!

Torres’ award was announced Thursday at an event honoring Los Alamos Public School outstanding teachers and classified personnel of 2012-13, and those retiring from LAPS this year. See full coverage of Thursday’s event in Saturday’s edition of the Los Alamos Daily Post.
