COMMUNITY WINDS News:
With the end of the school year approaching, the weather getting warmer, and thoughts of what to do for the summer being on everyone’s minds, the Los Alamos Community Winds would like to invite all players of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments to join them for their summer concerts. This summer, LACW is particularly in need of trombones and french horn players, but instruments in all sections are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The Los Alamos Community Winds has become a staple of our summers here in Los Alamos. In past years, it has performed for ScienceFest, The Next Big Idea, County Fair, Tuesdays at the Pond, and for the past 18 years has been one of the featured events of the annual July 4 Celebration, even maintaining the tradition during the 2011 Las Conchas Fire evacuation with a community concert held at White Rock Baptist Church.
LACW is preparing for its slate of Summer 2018 performances: Memorial Day May 28, Tuesdays at the Pond June 19 and Independence Day at Overlook Park.
If you play or have ever played a band instrument, LACW is a welcome place for you to continue your music involvement. Even if it has been a “few” years (some of the members returned to playing after more than 30 years away from their instruments!) you will find that there is a place for you to have a fun musical experience while also being challenged.
LACW is a particularly good place for students to maintain their playing skills over the summer. If you have student musicians in your family, LACW is a great way for them to keep up their expertise.
“If you are new to town and looking for a place to continue your musical involvement, LACW is the place for you!” said Winds Artistic Director Ted Vives. “If you are a LANL summer student, intern, or post doc, (or new hire!) LACW is also interested in having you with us. Many of you probably played (or currently still do) in college and we offer a way to become better acquainted with both Los Alamos and its community while participating in a fun musical endeavor. If you brought your “ax” with you, come join us! If you are interested in being a part of this fun, musical group, please contact us at email@example.com. We look forward to hearing from and making great music with you!”
The Los Alamos Community Winds meets 7-9 p.m. every Tuesday night at White Rock Baptist Church during the summer. There is no audition, but proficiency on a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument is required.
