Los Alamos National Bank awarded an educational scholarship to 18-year-old Caleb Hatler of Los Alamos.

Hatler graduated this year from Los Alamos High School and spoke to the Los Alamos Daily Post about his plans to utilize the LANB scholarship for his studies at LeTourneau University. LeTourneau is a private, interdenominational Christian university in Longview, Texas with programs in engineering, aeronautical science, education and business.

Hatler intends to study mechanical engineering.

“I am very excited about Los Alamos National Bank awarding me this scholarship … it lifts a lot of financial burden from me and allows me to enjoy college to the fullest,” Hatler said.

He is in his second year working as a summer student intern at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

“I’m really enjoying my job working on robots at the lab but also am looking forward to whatever opportunities come up while I am at college,” he said.

Hatler said that his father Vance Hatler is a chemical engineer who used to work at LANL.

LANB Market President Liddie Martinez explained that the bank has been supporting education and students for more than five decades benefiting thousands of Los Alamos families.

“We are so impressed by the caliber of students we have in Los Alamos and every year are amazed at the levels of their success,” Martinez said. “Congratulations to our own scholarship recipient, Caleb, and all the other young scholars in our community. You make us proud!”
