Happy New Year! 2013 will be awesome … because I intend to make it so, for myself; besides, is there any other way?!

A few years ago, I encountered a young and energetic woman in a “Photoshop” workshop who said, “Every year I take on a new hobby or activity. 

So this year I decided to learn how to shoot [with camera] and make great pictures.” It resonated with me. It doesn’t have to be a grandiose undertaking, just something that isn’t in one’s usual repertoire.

Winter Art Classes Begin Jan. 20

Registration is underway for the 2013 Winter Art Classes at Karen Wray Fine Art Gallery and Studio.

Community members are invited to join in the fun by participating in one of the classes, all of which will be held at the Gallery’s new location, 1475 Central Ave., Suite 125.

“Creative Color and Dynamic Design,” is a new evening class taught by award-winning local artist Melissa Bartlett.

Bartlett will teach participants how color theory and design are essential elements of painting. Class starts Jan. 28 from 6-8 p.m. and runs six weeks.

Since opening on N.M. 4 in early fall, the White Rock Tourist Information Center Complex has been packed with visitors daily, shattering previous attendance records for the White Rock facility as well as the Los Alamos Visitor Center at 15th Street and Central Avenue.

A monthly report compiled by the Meeting and Visitor Bureau shows 2,398 people visited the White Rock Tourist Information Center from its official opening Sept. 28 through the Sept. 30 month end. This is a marked increase from Read More
