ALBUQUERQUE  Monday, Gov. Susana Martinez joined Raytheon for the ribbon-cutting ceremony on the company’s new Albuquerque manufacturing facility.
 
The expanded operations will continue to support key missions for the U.S. military and coalition partners.

New Mexico Ranks 34th On Tax Competitiveness

WASHINGTON, D.C.  New Mexico has the 34th most competitive tax code in the nation, according to the Tax Foundation’s newly-released 2018 State Business Tax Climate Index.
 
This annual report measures how well each state’s tax code is structured, analyzing over 100 tax variables in five different tax categories: corporate, individual income, sales, property, and unemployment insurance.
 
The breakdown of New Mexico’s 2018 ranking is as follows (1st is best, 50th worst):
  • Overall Tax Climate: 34
  • Corporate Tax Structure: 24
  • Individual

DOE Awards Contract For Liquid Waste Services At Savannah River Site

CINCINNATI, Ohio The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Thursday announced the award of a contract to Savannah River EcoManagement, LLC for Savannah River Site Liquid Waste Services.
 
The contract is cost-plus-award-fee and includes an indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contract line item. The total estimated value of the contract is approximately $4.7 billion. Longest Yard Sale In New Mexico To Draw Bargain Shoppers And Leaf Peepers Oct. 21-22

JEMEZ SPRINGS — The Jemez Mountain Trail Sale will draw more than 150 vendors and leaf peepers to the Jemez Valley 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 21-22 to sell and buy new and used items and enjoy priceless views of the changing fall colors along the Jemez Mountain Trail Scenic Byway (N.M. 4).
 
The 14th annual Jemez Mountain Trail Sale – the longest yard sale in New Mexico – begins at San Ysidro near the intersection of N.M. 550 and N.M. 4 and continues 12 miles past Jemez Springs to La Cueva. The sale covers more than 30 miles.

EDD Announces New Regional Representatives

Susan (Susie) Russell was hired in September as a Regional Representative in southeastern New Mexico and based in Roswell.
 
She comes to the Economic Development Department after five years at the International Law Enforcement Training Academy (ILEA). Susie was a strong component of the original team at ILEA and worked with students from around the world. Prior to her stint at ILEA, Susie worked for more than nine years as the Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Chaves County, and for almost two years at the Director of Program at the Roswell Chamber
