Since Sherry Skelley was a young girl, she’s had a passion for cosmetology and fashion. While in her 20s she had an opportunity to pursue her dream, but it competed with the chance to enter the medical field. She chose the latter, specializing in private home health care for seniors.
Through the years, Skelley held tight to the hope that she would someday work in a salon and decided a few years ago it was time to make a plan. She enrolled in Vogue’s School of Cosmetology in Santa Fe, where she worked under outstanding instructors, she said.
“I loved it!” Skelley said of her education at Vogue. “It required a lot of study. I don’t think people realize the amount of study, hard work and dedication that go into earning a cosmetology license.”
This past year, Skelley had the good fortune to open shop in two different locations. She opened a private salon in a 55 and older community in Los Alamos. This allows her to combine the best of both worlds: working as a cosmetologist and with the senior citizen population she adores.
More recently, Skelley acquired space at Pearl’s Place in the Mari Mac Village Shopping Center, 800 Trinity Dr., Suite E, next door to Top Nails.
“I’m super excited about getting myself established in Los Alamos and building my client’s list. I enjoy interacting with my customers – that’s half the fun,” she said. “Of course, there are some who prefer quiet and I’m good with that, too.”
The services Skelley offers are hair cutting and styling, coloring, highlights, perms, tinting, waxing and manicures. She can be reached through various means: her direct phone at 505.975.5033, through Pearl’s Place at 505.412.5294, or via her Facebook business page at LA Beauty by Sherry, or email at labeautybysherry@gmail.com.
