The Grizzlies are a perennial Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) power, more commonly known as Division 1-AA. Brewer selected UMt based upon the location, their winning tradition, and the magnitude of the scholarship. D-1 football signing day is Feb. 5, but athletes can always commit before that date.
The Grizzlies were knocked out of the FCS playoffs this past season by Coastal Carolina. After losing to Coastal Carolina, the Grizzlies wanted to get bigger and stronger on their defensive front seven. Brewer, a two-time national Top Gun LB, is expected to help with that objective.
The most prominent suitor for Brewer’s services was the Wildcats of Kansas State University. KSU typically relies heavily upon JUCOs and walk-ons. KSU could or would not offer as much, monetarily, as UMt. Brewer was also recruited by Fort Lewis, Western New Mexico, Chadron State and D-II power Carson-Newman.
Brewer, a 6’2” 225 lb., strong-side DE, O-line, and special teams player, competed for the Hilltoppers the last four seasons. Last season the Toppers tied for first place in Div 2-4A, but were left out of the State playoffs as a result of a tie-breaker.
