Superintendent Gene Schmidt
Staff Report
All five members of the Los Alamos Board of Education just voted to retain Superintendent Gene Schmidt as interim superintendent for a year.
The Board will use that time period to conduct a nationwide search for a permanent superintendent to take over mid 2015.
Schmidt resigned earlier this month after it became evident that he did not have the full support of the board to renew his current contract, which runs out June 30.
School board members had a change of heart this evening and made the decision to retain Schmidt in the interim capacity. With just one year until retirement, this arrangement beneficial to Schmidt as well as the district.
Check back later for reaction to this latest twist in what has been a rocky road over the last few weeks.
