BPU Transparency Concerns Raised During Public Comment At Council Meeting

During public comment this evening in Council Chambers, Christine Chandler played a portion of a tape of a recent meeting of the Board of Public Utilities in which board members were discussing the possible purchase of a coal mine. Chandler encouraged the Council to find a way to have the BPU hold its meetings where they can be recorded and those recordings be placed in an easily accessible location for the public. Local attorney George Chandler said during public comment that he has been looking into the situation with the proposed DPU Charter amendments. He explained that he has discovered that the Council has a fiduciary duty to be aware of what the DPU and BPU are doing and that fiduciary duty trumps the charter. Screen Shot/LAC
