Friday morning the boys varsity soccer team opened the Louie Cernicek Memorial Soccer Tournament with a victory over the Aztec Tigers. Looking much more impressive than they did in their one-nil loss to Bosque Prep last Tuesday, the Toppers scored in the 9th minute. Tristen Semelsberger scoring off an assist by Arthur Steinkamp. George Steinkamp scored in the 20th minute off an assist by Daniel Castano. George’s goal in the 27th minute off a direct kick by Andreas Runde made the score 3-0 at half.

The second half belonged to sophomore Arthur Steinkamp. Steinkamp assisted on Semelsberger’s second goal in the 47th minute. Then Arthur scored two quick goals in the 48th and 49th minutes.  The first came from a pass from Ben Rees and the second on an assist from Runde. Nick Criscuolo made the score 7-0 in the 54th minute off an assist from Alex Bullock. Criscuolo made it 8-0 with another goal in the 63rd minute, but then it was back to Arthur Steinkamp making it 9-0 at the 68th minute and ending the game at the 10-0 mercy rule score with a goal off another assist from Runde.

Arthur Steinkamp’s five goals gave him the hat trick plus the Topper cane and gloves! Excellent midfield play by Semelsberger, Runde and Castano kept the Tigers from threatening Topper goalie Seth Hailey.
