WINDOW ROCK, AZ ― In an unprecedented move, both Navajo Nation presidential candidates endorsed the same candidates for New Mexico governor and lt. governor stating their future administrations need Michelle Lujan Grisham and Howie Morales as partners at the helm of New Mexico state government.
Lujan Grisham and Morales are thankful for the endorsements and remain committed to working closely with the Nation to ensure the safety, prosperity, and improved quality of life for all Navajo people.
“We need to get out there and let our folks and our relatives know that we need Michelle to be our next governor of the State of New Mexico. We have come a long way and Michelle has always had her door open in Washington D.C. for the Navajo people and that’s not going to change in the governor’s office. We continue to support, and to let everyone know that our endorsement is with her so that we can elect her in to the highest here in the state of New Mexico.” – Navajo Nation Vice President Jonathan Nez
“We are at a pivotal time in history and we need effective, strong leaders to take us forward. Michelle will be a Governor who will bring people together and fight for us every day. This includes the 22 Sovereign Nations in New Mexico because a vote for Michelle and Howie is a vote for the future. I am honored to endorse her and look forward to working together in strengthening the sovereignty of the Navajo Nation, preserving our language, and investing into the education for our young people.” – Former Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley, Jr.
