The Bureau of Land Management has announced two key leadership positions:
Kristin Bail will serve as the agency’s acting director; and
Jody L. Hudson has been selected as the assistant director for Human Capital Management.
Previous BLM Director Neil Kornze stepped down Jan. 20 with the transition to the new administration. Hudson succeeds Carole Carter-Pfisterer who retired from the BLM last month.
“Kristin is a thoughtful, effective leader. The BLM family will be in good hands under her leadership,” Kornze said.
In her most recent assignment, Bail served as Ass istant Director for the BLM’s Resources and Planning Directorate. She previously served as the agency’s Assistant Director for National Conservation Lands and Community Partnerships.
Bail has worked for more than 32 years in public land management across Oregon, Arizona, North Carolina and Washington, D.C. She has also served in a variety of field positions, as well as in policy and leadership roles in the BLM and U.S. Forest Service, gaining experience in a wide range of programs including rangeland management, forest management, recreation, land-use planning, and budget.
Bail grew up in Phoenix, Ariz., and graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. Her husband, Barron, retired from the BLM in 2010 after a 32-year career with the agency.
The BLM also announced today that Jody L. Hudson has been selected as the BLM Assistant Director for Human Capital Management in Washington, D.C.
Before joining the BLM, Hudson served as the Deputy Chief Capital Officer for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Rockville, Maryland, since July 2012.
Previously he served as Chief Learning Officer and Associate Director, Human Resources Training & Development at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and as the Chief Learning Officer at the Department of Energy. Hudson also spent more than 12 years in a variety of positions in the Environmental Protection Agency Region VII office in Kansas City, KS.
“Jody has broad experience in Human Resources and will play a vital role as the agency continues its efforts to hire and retain extraordinary talent,” BLM Director Neil Kornze said.
In his new role at the BLM, Hudson will serve as a key advisor on the full spectrum of human resource issues, including policies related to strategic human capital management, including diversity, human resources, and occupational health and safety.
Hudson holds a Master of Science degree from George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia.
