Bill To Fund Domestic Violence Services Passes First Committee

STATE News:

SANTA FE – Today, a bill to fund domestic violence services throughout the state of New Mexico passed the House Health and Human Services Committee.

House Bill 159 is sponsored by Reps. Christine Trujillo (D-Albuquerque), Joanne J. Ferrary (D-Las Cruces), and Elizabeth Thomson (D-Albuquerque) and funds domestic violence services through the Children, Youth and Families Department.

“We know that one in four women is a victim of domestic violence and that most often, that violence is perpetuated by a close family member or friend. Funding this program will better serve our communities and protect our families,” Rep. Ferrary said.

In addition to providing much needed services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, this bill would fund domestic violence training throughout the state.

HB 159 now heads to the House Appropriations and Finance Committee.
