The Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series is winding down for 2017. Our last three acts are Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys playing this Friday at Ashley Pond Park, Aug. 25 followed by the ‘80s and ‘90s rock band, The Paladins, Sept. 1 and we finish up the year Sept. 8 with Metales M5 – The Mexican Brass.

Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys were formed in an Anaheim, Calif. garage in 1988. In the 29 years since, they’ve toured the world and some of her better clubs and festivals. They play rock, rockabilly, Ameripolitan, Americana, alt. country, alt. Indie rock, western swing, doo-wop, Memphis soul and country boogie. Country boogie can best be described as the country music of the 1940s and 1950s.

Great dance music will be played all night! Western swing is the swinging music of bands like Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys, Asleep At The Wheel, Spade Cooley & His Western Dance Gang, Hank Thompson and the Hot Club of Cowtown along with hundreds of others from the 1920s to the present. Big Sandy’s voice reminds me most of Buddy Holly of Crickets fame.

This will be the fourth time that the Fly-Rite Boys have played Los Alamos. I promise you a great dance concert. You can listen to our band and read about at www.bigsandy.net. You can also listen to them at www.youtube.com. You can read about our shows, our sponsors, some of our history and follow the acts on www.gordonssummerconcerts.com.

Friday night will be Holiday Inn Express & Suites Night. They supply rooms for our acts. The Holiday Inn is a major sponsor of our Series and has been our hotel sponsor since they opened in Los Alamos. Their website is www.guestreservations.com/holiday-inn-express-hotel-suites-los-alamos/booking.

Our last two acts of this year will be San Diego’s Paladins and Mexico’s Metales M5 – The Mexican Brass. In the late 1980s and 1990s, the Paladins were considered one of Rock & Rolls Best Bands by Rolling Stone Magazine. Check them out at www.rockabilly.net/paladins and at www.youtube.com. This show will be Smith’s Marketplace Night. Read about Smith’s at www.smiths/foodanddrug.com.

Our last show will be with Metales M5 – The Mexican Brass. We’re putting this show on with the Los Alamos Concert Association as co-producers. Please go to www.losalamosconcert.org. The Mexican Brass – Metales M5 is Latin America’s most successful brass quintet. They are serious FUN from Baroque  to Broadway. Read about them at www.metalesm5.com. This show will be fabulous!
