Beware of Deer Running into Moving Vehicles

Staff report:

Two deer jumped in front of a 2002 red Subaru Wednesday night at the intersection of Diamond Drive and San Ildefonso Road.

The Los Alamos man driving the Subaru told police he was heading east on Diamond Drive at about 8 p.m. Wednesday and unable to stop when the deer jumped in front of his vehecle.

The driver is a Los Alamos man who was not injured, according to the police report. However, one deer was declared dead at the scene and the other was found lying on the ground breathing but not moving.

The collision damaged the front end of the Subaru, including a broken left headlight, broken grill and dent in the metal above the left headlight area.  

The driver was not cited for the accident but was cited for not having valid insurance.
