LABC News:

Brian Smith is the 200th member of the Los Alamos Beer Cooperative ( LABC). LABC’s vision and purpose is to start the first ever craft brewery in Los Alamos, and the first cooperative brewery in the state.

“Our intent is to be a place for the community to gather and enjoy great locally crafted beer,” Board President Micheline Devaurs said. “The cooperative will support and promote the local craft beer community, and the brewery hopes to be located within the historic downtown.”

Earlier this year, the board initiated a member loan program to raise $275,000 in support of opening the LABC brewery and taproom, she said. This initial capital is primarily for the following uses: space, tenant improvements, equipment, start-up staffing, initial inventory and working capital.

“We offer annual and lifetime memberships ($50 and $250, respectively), offer B member equity investments in $100 increments and finally offer member loans (must be lifetime member to loan) starting at $1,000. Member loans are 10-year loans, with 3 percent interest compounded annually and principal and interest paid back in years 5 to 10.

We continue to fundraise around town–upcoming events include a table at Skiesta March 15, a member loan information session 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 23 at Manhattan Project Bar & Grill and a post tax beer dinner and fundraising event April 19.
