Beauty Chem & Co. salon officially opens Friday at 1910 Deacon St., formerly occupied by Cortex and Co.
“I’ve been working at Cortex and Co. for about a year and a half and now that the previous owner is moving back to her home state of Texas, I’m jumping at the opportunity to be a business owner!” Megan Martinez told the Los Alamos Daily Post during an interview Wednesday. “The branding change is an exciting way for me to make the business my own. I have lots of ideas to come!”
Krystal Davidson opened Cortex & Co. in July of 2016 and today is her final day of operation before heading home to Texas.
Like Cortex & Co., Beauty Chem & Co. is a Green Circle salon, which mean they recycle all of their foils, gloves, hair and excess colors, Martinez said.
Martinez and her husband Mark Martinez grew up in Los Alamos and have a 5-year-old daughter Jaiden. Mark will be helping his wife in their new business venture, she said.
“We are excited to open a business here and see how we might contribute … I encourage my staff to volunteer and give back to the community,” Martinez said.
A grand opening is planned for the community this summer.
The salon is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. To schedule an appointment, call 505.500.4789.
