Summary: Crews contained the Battleship Fire at 5:15 p.m. today and will remain on scene until approximately 9 p.m. today. The Battleship Fire is in steep terrain with difficult access. Crews worked overnight Sunday to complete a line around the perimeter. Because of hot, dry conditions and the heavy fuel load in the area, fire managers ordered a strong response to the fire. The effort paid off as crews kept the fire from growing beyond 3 acres. Crews will return to the site early Tuesday to monitor the fire and complete mop-up.  Smoke may be visible along the N.M. 4 corridor.

Fire danger on the Santa Fe National Forest is Extreme. Visitors are urged to use extreme caution with campfires, smoking, shooting and other activities that may spark. Fireworks are always prohibited on National Forest System lands.

Structures Threatened: None

Weather: Partly cloudy skies may turn to scattered showers and thunderstorms through the evening with winds in the 10 to 15 mph range. A weak moisture push into New Mexico could generate a dry lightning pattern over higher terrain.
