Battered and bloody, a 23-year-old Los Alamos man told police two men dressed in black, one wearing red shoes, attacked him in the parking lot of the VFW on Deacon Street.

Paul J. Martinez described the melee to police, saying he was walking in the parking lot March 5 when out of nowhere a fist made contact with his left temple, causing him to feel dizzy and black out, according to police. Martinez added that the men stole cash from him.

Police launched an investigation and discovered that Martinez had actually been waiting for the men to bring him marijuana. They took his money and started to leave without giving him the pot, so Martinez began pummeling them and also attempted to hold on to their car to keep them from leaving.

Police arrested Martinez March 7 and charged him with making a false report to police.
