Batalion Chief Joseph Candelaria Retires From LAFD Today

Los Alamos Fire Battalion Chief Joseph Candelaria is retiring today – his birthday – after 17.5 years of service to the community. He remembers the day he started at LAFD. It was July 9, 2001. ‘It’s bittersweet,’ Candelaria told the Los Alamos Daily Post today at Fire Station 1. ‘Public service has been my whole life.’ Candelaria is moving into a new career soon and will take on the position of deputy group leader in the Institutional Training Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He’ll also continue to be involved with the UNM-Los Alamos Fire Science program, which he started some seven years ago. Candelaria recently received his master’s degree and is working on his doctorate. Photo by Bonnie J. Gordon/ladailypost.com
