Bandelier Waiving Entrance Fees On MLK Day Jan. 17

BANDELIER News:

In honor of the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., Bandelier National Monument will waive entrance fees for everyone Monday, Jan. 17, as the first fee-free day of the year.

Commemorated on the third Monday of January every year, it also is a day of service when hundreds of volunteers participate in service projects at parks across the country.

This is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

Campground fees still apply on all fee-free days. Bandelier National Monument normally charges $25 per vehicle, $20 per motorcycle, and $15 per individual or bicycle. Bandelier specific annual passes and the full suite of America the Beautiful – The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands passes are honored for entrance fees and are available for purchase at the visitor center.

Bandelier National Monument is one of approximately 100 national parks that has an entrance fee. There are more than 300 other national parks that do not charge an entrance fee. Fee dollars help parks complete vital projects that directly impact park visitors, with 80% of fee revenue staying in the park where it is collected.

The other entrance fee-free days for 2022 will be:

  • Saturday, April 16 – First Day of National Park Week
  • Thursday, August 4 – Great American Outdoors Act anniversary
  • Saturday, September 24 –National Public Lands Day
  • Friday, November 11 –Veterans Day

The Bandelier National Monument visitor center, located in Frijoles Canyon, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The park is open, including all trails and Tsankawi, from dawn until dusk. The park store operated by Western National Parks Association is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
