Bandelier Visitor Center and Atomic City Transit Shuttle Go To Fall Hours

BANDELIER News:

Bandelier National Monument Superintendent Jason Lott has announced fall and winter hours for the Bandelier Visitor Center and the Atomic City Transit shuttle service.

“The days are getting shorter, and Labor Day weekend is traditionally the end of our summer hours,” Lott said. “Starting Tuesday Sept. 4, the Bandelier Visitor Center will be closing at 5:30 p.m., and then on Oct. 1 it will be closing at 4:30 p.m.”

New Hours:

  • Sept. 4 through Sept. 30, the Atomic City Transit shuttle service will run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from White Rock to Bandelier National Monument.
  • Oct. 1 through Nov. 17, the Atomic City Transit shuttle service will run 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from White Rock to Bandelier National Monument.
  • Nov. 18 through the winter, there will be no shuttle service to Bandelier, and visitors will need to drive to the park.

Shuttle service to Bandelier National Monument will resume in early March.

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 6, visitors arriving late in the day may drive to Bandelier and park at the Visitor Center lot in Frijoles Canyon from 4 p.m. to dusk, when the park closes.

Visitors arriving before 4 p.m. must take the shuttle from White Rock. Bandelier is open from dawn to dusk every day.

Trailheads along N.M. 4, and the Tsankawi area are not accessible by shuttle, and visitors wishing to hike from those trailheads may park there any time between dawn and dusk.

Likewise, visitors may park at the Frey Trailhead near Juniper Campground any time between dawn and dusk and hike to the main sites at Frijoles Canyon, or hike out to Tyuonyi Overlook.
