Bandelier Reminds Visitors About Fire Restrictions

BANDELIER News:

Following the Stage 1 Fire Restriction that was implemented last week by the Santa Fe National Forest, Superintendent Jason Lott would like to remind visitors that Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in place year round at Bandelier.

“With the unusually low moisture levels, dry conditions and high winds, we want the public to remain vigilant about fire safety when they visit,” Superintendent Lott said.

At Bandelier, camp fires are allowed in the grates provided in the campgrounds. Charcoal and charcoal grill use is limited to the grates in the campground as well. Camp stoves fueled by liquid petroleum with on/off switches are allowed when used at least three feet from flammable materials overhead and on the ground.

Smoking is allowed in designated areas only, which include the parking lot picnic area in Frijoles Canyon and the campgrounds. Fireworks are never allowed at Bandelier.

Fire restrictions in New Mexico can be found at https://firerestrictions.us /nm/ and fire updates are posted on the New Mexico Fire Information website at www.nmfireinfo.com.

The Bandelier Visitor Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Weather permitting, the park is open every day during daylight hours, except Christmas and New Year’s Day.
