Bandelier and the National Park Service will be celebrating the 2nd anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) Thursday, Aug. 4, with an entrance fee-free day!
Visitors will not be charged entrance fees to enter National Park Service areas that normally charge entrance fees, including Bandelier, in honor of this anniversary.
Passed in 2020, the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) is a significant investment that will help reduce the burden of backlogged maintenance in national parks, public lands, and Tribal schools. GAOA will fund critical infrastructure projects to support continued preservation, accessibility, and enjoyment of our national parks.
Through strategic and significant investments, GAOA funding will enhance conservation and recreation opportunities in local communities and on public lands. Bandelier National Monument is on target to have a contract awarded this year for a $29 million-dollar GAOA and Legacy Restoration Fund (LRF) project which will reconstruct and replace the outdated utility system in the Frijoles Canyon area, the most visited section of the park.
Bandelier National Monument is one of approximately 100 national parks that charges an entrance fee. There are more than 300 other national parks that are free of charge. Fee dollars help parks complete vital projects that directly impact park visitors, with 80 percent of fee revenue staying in the park where it is collected.
The other entrance fee-free days for 2022 will be:
- Saturday, Sept. 24 –National Public Lands Day
- Friday, Nov. 11 –Veterans Day
- Campground fees still apply on all fee-free days.
Bandelier National Monument is open every day from sunrise to sunset. In Frijoles Canyon, the park visitor center and the park store (operated by Western National Parks Association) is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the café, Sirphey at Bandelier, is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
Park entrance fees are $25 per private vehicle, $20 per motorcycle, or $15 per bicycle/individual. All entrance passes are valid for 7 days. America the Beautiful– the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands passes are accepted for entrance fees.
The full suite of America the Beautiful – the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands passes as well as Bandelier Annual passes are available for purchase at the visitor center. For more information about types of passes and prices, visit: https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/passes.htm.
