This month’s meeting of the Military Order of the World Wars is Tuesday Jan. 21.

The topic is: What is an Act of War? Robert Hull of Los Alamos Technical Associates (LATA) will present a talk on “Potential for Covert Use of Unconventional Weaponry is Causing Society to Redefine an Act of War”.

This presentation will address how changes in unconventional weaponry and their use over the last 50+ years are causing governments and international organizations to change how they define an Act of War. This has resulted in new lines in the sand to determine when and how response actions

Gessing: Tax Hikes Won’t Diversify NM Economy

House Democrats have revamped and are now pushing HB 6, legislation that ostensibly “reforms” New Mexico’s tax code. In reality, the legislation would impose a variety of tax hikes and raise New Mexicans’ overall tax burdens by $120 million a year.
 
The bill would have the positive impact of reducing the State gross receipts tax rate by 0.5%, but the legislation includes numerous taxes including but not limited to motor vehicle excise taxes, a 10 cent per gallon increase in the gas tax, hiking the top rate on personal income taxes from 4.9 to

Plea Agreement Reached Prior To Katcher Trial

A plea agreement was reached Wednesday morning in Los Alamos Magistrate Court for Garrett Thayne Katcher, 33, of Los Alamos. Jurors called for selection for his trial on a charge of aggravated battery against a household member were dismissed.

Katcher agreed to plead no contest to the lesser charge of battery against a household member. Judge Pat Casados sentenced him to 364 days in jail with that time being deferred, two years supervised probation and successful completion of a 52-week domestic violence offender
